This covers both the Road Trip Replay iPhone app and the roadtripreplay.com website. The short version: your GPS trail stays on your phone until you choose to export it, and we only store what's needed to show you your own trip or a trip you've chosen to share.
While you're actively recording a trip, Road Trip Replay logs your device's GPS location — latitude, longitude, timestamp, speed, and altitude — at regular intervals. This happens only while a recording is running; the app doesn't track your location in the background otherwise.
On your device. Recorded trips are saved locally on your phone. Nothing is sent anywhere automatically. The data only leaves your device when you export a trip yourself — for example, to upload it to roadtripreplay.com or share it another way.
If you choose to view a trip on the site, it's processed in your browser and isn't saved anywhere unless you tap Share. If you do share it, we store:
We don't use passwords. Signing in works by emailing you a one-time link (sent via Resend). We store your email address and nothing else about you as a person — no name, phone number, or other personal details are collected.
The site uses a single session cookie to keep you signed in. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies, and we don't run any third-party analytics.
We keep a simple internal log of page visits — which page, roughly when, whether you were signed in, and your country (worked out from your IP address at the time, using an offline lookup — the IP address itself is never stored). We also work out a rough count of unique visitors: your IP address and browser are combined with the date and turned into a one-way scrambled code, which is stored instead of anything identifiable. That code changes every day, so it can't be used to follow the same visitor from one day to the next. This is just aggregate traffic and country-level stats for us to see how the site's being used; it isn't tied to your account or usable to identify you individually.
If a paid feature is used, payment is processed by Stripe. We don't see or store your card details — that happens entirely on Stripe's side.
You can delete any trip you've shared at any time from the My Trips page. To delete your account and everything associated with it, email support@roadtripreplay.com and we'll remove it.
We don't sell or rent your data to anyone. The only outside parties involved are the ones needed to run the service itself: Resend (sign-in emails) and Stripe (payments) — each only receives what's necessary for their part.
Road Trip Replay isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
